Why the record is being reviewed

On 26 February 1991, 2nd Platoon, Ghost Troop, 2d Squadron, 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment closed with a Republican Guard mechanized strongpoint in a sandstorm at the 73 Easting. The platoon leader’s actions that afternoon were recognized with the Bronze Star Medal with “V” device.

Published accounts and participants’ records, examined together in the years since, describe an action that veterans of the fight believe meets the standard for the Medal of Honor. Two lawful avenues exist to place that question before the Army: the Board for Correction of Military Records and a congressional recommendation under 10 U.S.C. §1130.

Both require new material evidence — sworn statements from those who were there, endorsements from those qualified to judge, and original documents. That is what this site collects.

If granted, a first

No Medal of Honor has been awarded for Operation Desert Storm. No trooper of the 2d Cavalry has received the Medal since 1880. This effort does not presume the outcome; it asks that the complete record be placed before the officials whose duty it is to decide.
